The Standard You Set When No One’s Watching

There are moments in this business that don’t happen on a stage or come with an announcement. No one is keeping score in real time, and there is rarely immediate recognition tied to them. They show up in quiet conversations, long drives between meetings, and the extra follow-up call that was not required but felt necessary. That is where trust is built.

When I think about what it means to be a great wholesaler, it is not about one big moment. It is about how consistently someone shows up in the small ones. That is what makes Carlo Roman’s recognition as our 2025 Wholesaler of the Year meaningful.

It Starts with Listening

If you asked Carlo what separates him, he would not start with results or numbers. He would talk about listening, not the kind where you are waiting for your turn to speak, but the kind where you are genuinely trying to understand how an advisor thinks, how their business operates, and what they are trying to accomplish before introducing a solution.

That same mindset shows up internally as well. Carlo is constantly asking questions, reaching out to other wholesalers, and looking for ways to improve. What stands out is that he does not just ask, he listens, and then he acts. He takes feedback, implements it, and continues refining his approach over time.

That has been his approach since joining Beacon in 2023. He shows up prepared, stays present, and leads with curiosity. It sounds simple, but it requires patience, discipline, and a willingness to put your own agenda aside long enough to earn the right to be part of someone else’s business. That is where trust begins.

What This Recognition Really Represents

It is easy to look at an award like this and focus on outcomes such as growth or production. Carlo has delivered on those fronts, building relationships and momentum with a level of consistency that stood out across the firm.

But that is not really why this recognition exists. It is about how the work gets done. Carlo brings grit in challenging situations, professionalism in how he represents the firm, and a positive attitude that keeps things moving forward. He is also someone who is always working to get better, which is what allows that consistency to sustain itself over time.

The Work Behind the Work

One of the things I have always appreciated about Carlo is that he understands the job goes well beyond product conversations. Wholesaling is about helping advisors solve real problems, whether that involves investments, positioning, or simply being a sounding board when they are working through a challenge.

It always comes back to how you can help an advisor become better at what they do. That mindset shifts the role from transactional to relational and from short-term wins to long-term partnerships. When you operate that way consistently, trust becomes a natural outcome.

Character Shows Up Everywhere

One of the most meaningful parts of this recognition is what Carlo chose to do with it. As part of the award, we make a donation to a charity of the recipient’s choice, and Carlo selected Pheasants Forever, an organization he has been connected to for years.

He was introduced to bird hunting at a young age and later relied on a local chapter for mentorship when he got his first bird dog. That experience stayed with him, and today he gives back by helping introduce young hunters to the sport and mentoring them the same way someone once did for him. The same qualities that make him effective in his role, including patience and mentorship, show up in how he spends his time outside of work.

What Defines a Great Wholesaler

We spend a lot of time in this industry talking about strategy, markets, and outcomes, and those things matter. At the same time, the real differentiator is how you show up. The best wholesalers are consistent, follow through, listen more than they talk, and are willing to learn from others and continuously improve.

That is the standard, and it is something you commit to over time. Carlo embodies that approach.

Life at Beacon

What stands out about moments like this is what they say about the team as a whole. Recognition at Beacon is not about spotlighting one person. It is about reinforcing how we show up for advisors, how we support each other, and how we approach our work when no one is watching.

Carlo’s recognition reflects that. It is a reminder that success here is built through consistency, character, and a commitment to doing the right things the right way. That is what we are building at Beacon, and what makes this kind of recognition meaningful beyond just a title.
